Japanese Soja Sauce Ceramic Jar
I bought this tiny ceramic soy sauce bottle in Japan simply because I could not resist its proportions. Designed for one of the most ordinary rituals of Japanese dining, it transforms an everyday container into a perfectly resolved object. Its rounded body, delicate red line, and discreet lid possess the simplicity of something refined over generations.
I rarely use it. Instead, it occupies a permanent place inside my ceramic cabinet, quietly greeting me every time I open the doors. Some objects exist to serve; others exist simply to be looked at. This little vessel belongs to the second category. It has become one of those familiar presences that slowly disappear into everyday life while remaining impossible to imagine absent.
